Guide for bi+ inclusive research
Bi+ Nederland frequently observes that the measurement of sexual orientation is not conducted in a bi+ inclusive manner. This results in issues concerning reliability, validity, underreporting, and bi+ erasure. In this guide, we outline our recommendations for conducting bi+ inclusive research.
The following topics are addressed:
- Using the term bi+ people instead of bisexual people
- Choosing the appropriate dimension of sexual orientation
- Formulating bi+ inclusive questions and answer options
- Analysis and reporting of responses
- Applying an intersectional approach in research
- Attention to relationship diversity and the impact of relationship partners
- Attention to specific bi+ microaggressions and experiences of discrimination
- Discrimination and exclusion within LGBTQIA+ communities
